Definition of non-woven fabric
Non-woven fabric is a fabric-like material made from staple fiber (short) and also long fibers (continuous long), bonded together by chemical, mechanical, heat or solvent treatment. The term is used in the textile manufacturing industry to denote fabrics, such as felt, which are neither woven nor knitted. Some nonwoven materials lack sufficient strength unless densified or reinforced by a backing. In recent years, non-woven has become an alternative to polyurethane foam.
How is a non-woven fabric used?
Beyond simple definitions, these engineered fabrics also open up a world of innovative possibilities for all types of industries.
Non-woven may be a limited-life, single-use fabric or very durable fabric. Non-woven fabric provides specific functions such as absorbency, liquid repellency, resilience, stretch, softness, strength, flame retardancy, washability, cushioning, filtering, bacterial barriers, and sterility. They often combine these properties to create fabrics suited for specific jobs while achieving a good balance between product use-life and cost. Furthermore, they can mimic the appearance, texture, and strength of a woven fabric, and can be as bulky as the thickest paddings.
Applications of non-woven fabric
Today, innovations in the non-woven fabric are growing as rapidly as the demand for them, with almost unlimited possibilities for a wide variety of industries, including:
- Agriculture: agricultural coverings, agricultural seed strips
- Automotive technology: automotive headliners, automotive upholstery
- Textile: civil engineering fabrics, civil engineering geotextiles, agro textiles, labels, tags
- Packaging: non-woven shopping bags
- Hygiene products: baby and adult diapers (disposable diapers), female hygiene
- Medical: protective clothing, sterile medical-use products
- Technical products
- Architectural non-woven
- Coating substrates
- Filtration: filters
- Disk covers
- Household and personal wipes
CaCO3 filler masterbatch for non-woven fabric
They can use CaCO3 filler masterbatch for non-woven fabric application.
Fillplas also has PP filler masterbatch to use for this application. The recommended usage of this material is 5 to 40% depending on the final product requirements. You could also visit Fillplas website for more information.
